About Therapy

If you have never met with a therapist you may wonder what it's like. When we begin we will discuss what brings you to therapy and what you hope to accomplish in coming. I will ask questions about you and your history so that I can best understand you. I also encourage you to ask questions so you can determine if I am the right therapist for you. Sometimes the topics we talk about can be difficult or painful and I will provide you a safe, supportive environment where we can work to minimize the impact of those experiences on your life.  We will identify the strengths and skills that make you who you are and that have helped you survive difficult times. Together we will identify your goals for therapy and a plan for reaching them. As we move forward, our time will be spent working collaboratively on the issues that brought you to therapy. Therapy is a process where in the safety of a therapeutic relationship you can learn about yourself, develop new skills, change old behaviors that have become problematic and heal wounds that continue to affect your life so you can move forward with less pain and more enjoyment in life.
